This overview highlights the range of volunteer roles needed to run a successful swim season. Please note:

• Some roles have limited availability and will be tracked accordingly.
• Volunteer jobs may change based on the evolving needs of the team.
• League jobs, while similar to the below, are tracked separately and do not counted toward regular season volunteer hours.

Set Up: 
Prepare the pool area for a meet (includes: set up the general swim area, bullpen tent/chairs, and circle the pool with the red/white flags. Set up the backstroke flags, lane lines, scoring tent/table, ribbon table, starter table. THIS JOB REQUIRES YOU TO BE AT THE POOL DECK AT 7:00AM.

Timer/Plunger:
For each event, the TIMER will be expected to start the stopwatch at the beginning of each event when the swimmer leaves the wall or diving block and stop the stopwatch when the swimmer completes the race by touching the wall. The TIMER/PLUNGER MUST GET UP AND APPROACH THE EDGE OF THE POOL and visually see the swimmer touch the wall before stopping the stopwatch.

Recorder: 
Verify each swimmer’s name and make sure it is spelled correctly and record each swimmer’s time per event. As a RECORDER, it is important to make sure the swimmer on deck is the swimmer listed on the entry list. For any discrepancies, raise your hand and let the RUNNER know immediately.

Runner: 
Collects the event cards from the recorders and DQ slips from the Stroke and Turn officials after each race and delivers them to the scoring desk. It is preferable to have two runners per home meet.

Runners also temporarily relieve a Timer/Plunger/Recorder for a restroom break.

Ribbon Writer: 
Attaches pre-printed computer labels onto the ribbons. At any time there are non-computerized meets, the RIBBON WRITER writes in the swimmer’s name, time, event and date.

Ribbons will be filed in each swimmer’s folders in the Piranhas Box.

Stroke and Turn Officials:
Evaluates the legality of the strokes and turns of the swimmers. *Must attend the Stroke & Turn clinic.

Shepherds: 
Responsible for getting 8 and under swimmers to the starting blocks for their events and ensuring the swimmers are in their correct swim order. SHEPHERDS must stay with the these group of swimmers until the last swimmer in the group is in the water.

If we are at a Home Meet, SHEPHERDS must pull the starting block out of water.

Starter: 
Responsible for announcing races, giving instructions to swimmers and timers while using the starter system.

*If you are interested in becoming a Starter, you must attend the Stroke and Turn Clinic in April.

Colorado Timing System: 
Responsible for setting up and helping to run the timing systems to record the results from the meet.

Computer: 
Responsible for building and recording results from the meet. Compiles swimmer seasonal time for awards and seasonal standings.

Clean Up: 
Help clean up the pool area after the meet is done with a group of four volunteers. (Reverse of set-up tasks listed above).
